Mike- if you can generate a sample stack that has the loss-of-focus issue you're talking about, feel free to send it my way. I can't duplicate your problem with the same environment (rev 2.9, GLX2 2.2b5, xp sp3). Can't imagine why the down-arrow key wouldn't be working for you on a new object and would for me.
I just added a note to your post about macros. If you've got any hacks to GLX2 that you've implemented and think they might be generally useful, do let me know.
Thanks. You should see the rest of the pictures from that wreck. It was pretty spectacular. The trail of destruction was loooooooooooooooong. Unfortunately that guy was DRT (Dead Right There), but that meant we got a lot of good photos of us working on the vehicle to free him so we could carry him out. Thankfully he was also the only one in the vehicle and he didn't kill anybody else in the process.
This wasn't the prettiest wreck I've ever worked, but it was one of the most photogenic.

In the following photo, look down the road at the truck in the middle of the road. That's roughly the spot where this guy came over the rise at high speed, caught air, stuck the front end in the shoulder, and started it flipping , on its way tumbling to where it rests in the remainder of the photos.
